changes: from here to wordpress

Working on a new stole for a wedding, I really don't know if the work is worth why. What if I quit the knitting project and just do what everybody would do instead? That is "buy" a little something to improve my formal tailleur. Shoes, a matching bag and a blouse? It's spring outside and I'd better stay outside in my garden instead of sitting cramped with needles, slik yarn running everywhere, stitchmarkers and a complicated lace design in front of me. Does it means the knitter in me is givin' forfait? Think so.
The stole is really very nice, but I'm not in the mood. Honestly, It may happen', no? To the best of us.
Know what? Only donkeys stay there without changing their mind. ( sorry donky, it's like with hens, they have an university, but we humans do think they are stupid)
I have some wild things in mind: refresh my sewing and learn how to decorate cakes and cupcakes. Italian says: impara l'arte e mettila da parte, something like: learn something, it will be useful someday. And that's exactly what I'll do. Fresh air, a deep breath and out I go.
Nice day to everybody.
If you are in the mood follow me at slitknits.wordpress.com
All'incirca cosí.
Andró in negozio e daró una spinta all'economia nazionale acquistando scarpe, borsa e sottogiacca.

May 1st

May Day. The day! Our day!

A cup a tea and some precious minutes all for me. To remember that we work for living and not viceversa.

And that a job is not something you have to be grateful for, but one of your fundamental rights. Hope some people will stop fuzzing around with vacuous nonsenses about what does it really mean the verb "to work". My patience is running very thin about this matter, sorry.

SugarBelle's tutorials

Once again I have to thank this cute blogger SugarBelle www.sweetsugarbelle.com for her tutorial work. Impossible to cope with her skills, you'll better try to find your own, down to earth style. And this is what I did

There are needles and needles

Look, sometimes you have to leave your knitting needles and take from your cupboard the sewing machine. In fact I just sew some little things for me and for some presents I'll give to a very nice young lady who does like red in all the shades. Now all I have to do is finish the work - by hand.

A needle or crochet hooks case

In gamba davvero!

Swap surprise!

Yesterday I was in a hurry so I did misunderstood one of the many presents my swap partner put into her parcel for me. I saw this cute barcelet, yes, but only today I realise it' a stitch and row counter! Girls, I have such a tool! Thanks again, J.

Grazie J. !

Sock swap 6

Nola HooksNBooks was my secret 6th swap partner and she sent me all this staff - amazing! Just have a look by yourself
She wrote on her lovely card thad she has been picking up things for the swap at the very beginning of the swapping period. And indeed she knew what I like and love, starting from the shades of green. And she sent me dying color, from Kool Aid to Egg dye. And cards and a note pad that's already on my fridge.... And a knitting bag with owls (my favourite in years - I have 4 of them in different sizes) and stitch-makers with teapots. (I love tea as well). And kintpicks sock yarn........But the socks mad me simply gasp. Perfect is all I can say. Nola is such a knitter! Perfect in every detail. THANKS, J aka NolaHNB
Semplicemente perfette. Punto. Grazie mille J.

New look for my blog and a pic of a friendly meeting with other knitters at the Knulp in Trieste. One of them coming all the way from Brussels to have a chat and drink a guarana' on the rocks with us.

Asparagus

A day off with kids and dogs. Time for a quick project - let me test Bubiknits's Asparagus, then.

Working on my swap socks

April - and I still haven't finished my International swap socks.
I have chosen a nice pattern from Stephanie van der Linden's Socken aus aller Welt. Love this book!
For my swap partner I've chosen the "French lavender" pattern.
I was totally on another project - a wedding stole for a special friend. It has to be perfect, and I'll do my very best for her.
Looking nice, isn't it?
Certe tradizioni vanno rispettate.

Buona Pasqua

Easter dessert

It just happens that I love rhubarb and I love ginger and I have my family coming by for dinner.... I just have to serve my very personal dessert
Special thanks to http://www.sweetsugarbelle.com for her inspiring tutorials and the basic cookies recipe
For the dessert you'll need a basic custard - the one you love or a vanilla pudding, slightly cooked rhubarb, freshly grated ginger root, cottage cheese and some double cream, 2 round biscuits per serving
First you put in your glasses the custard
Nei bicchieri facciamo uno strato di crema
Then you "seal" the cream with the first biscuit
Time for the rhubarb puree - peel and cut in small pieces the stem and cook it with a knob of butter and just a small amount of brown sugar. Add the grated ginger before using the puree.

Time to use the second biscuit and a slightly mixed cream cheese, sugar and double cream
enjoy

Mettiamoci una pezza

Remember L'Aquila three years after the earthquake. Dozens of small kintted or crocheted squares to show that at least someone still cares. This one is part of the Social crochet project for mettiamociunapezza.wordpress.com.

4 are mine

Stormy weather

Have to arrange Saturday's family dinner .... but all I wanna do is sit there and knit.

Sabato pranzo in famiglia.

Go green

Thinking vegan

It all started a month ago when I read a post about a vegan maionaise... Nooo, it's impossible to make a good sauce maionaise without eggs and a painful, constant wisking. But, again, why not? So I took my minipimer, soya milk, Rapsol and ........here it was a tasty maionaise. No one could guess it was not the real, home made one. What if it was a sign, given just before Easter?

Shaun says yes! It is a sign

This is my "new" cardy and this is my green stole - a present for my viennese friend Barbara - she did the blocking. Good girl

Bel lavoro.

Red fox bag

Working on my swap socks I badly needed a proper bag. And ta-daaah here it is, after a nice afternoon at my sewing machine. Love the foxy pattern and the lining. I've bought both at the La volpe rossa shop in Opcina near the place where I live.   Also love the wool I'm using. It's a very soft blend I've purchased at the  http://www.ortodegliulivi.it . It's a 2 ply I'm using doubled.

Refresh your Pulli

When a cardy is sleeping alone in your cupboard for too long it could be because it does not fit you anymore, because you don't like it anymore, because it's out of fashion..... Whatever - it's a waste of precious place! That's why every now and then I refresh the look of my beloved cardigans and rocks. A tiny ivy decoration is more than enough to give my cotton cardigan another life. Bought at the Volpe rossa shop in Opicina. Lovely place!

Orange peel "Zopf" and springtime pics

Not a great photo, I agree, but it's the first time our new cherry tree shows her blossoms.

The rubharb is growing...

I'm also testing recipes for Easter. We - being my son M and me - have tried a personal variation of the far more traditional Zimt Zopf. The basic recipe we use is a very simple one, made for our way of intending cakes : a small amount of butter, one egg, 75 grams of sugar and 500 grams of flour, milk.

As for the cinnamon, peels, butter and nuts mix that usually makes the Zopf so nice looking and tasty, we have decided for cinnamon, orange zest, a pinch of sugar and some drops of butter. The result was super anyway. The last slice is right now with me and my cup of strong breakfast tea with milk.

Hot cross buns

I have this digital magazine Good Food, ok? And I love to test their recipes. Am I in Ad? Nope. But when your dearest does ask you one more and one more and the buns are not even cooled on the rack and he does not love cakes at all that means the recipe is a damn good one. And you have to stick to the magazine as well.

Your start with a dough - my KitchenAid does the dirty work

Then you prepare a mix of orange zest, cored and diced apples, cinnamon, sultanas. They don't look like sultanas? Correct - I had none left so I had to use dates instead.

Here it is the happy mix

Now you have to part it in 15 (why????) smaller pieces

See?

And now the magic of the cross made of flour and water

After a 20 minutes bake here they are - lovely, tasty, from now on a must on my table. Thank you BBC digital magazine. The entire house smells so good: apples and cinnamon.

Ciao!
